Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Building Maintenance
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Perform varied semi-skilled tasks in the operation and maintenance of a Waste Water Treatment and/or sewage pumping plant, while working with a Local 1250 employee of a higher classification, including work involving the maintenance and upkeep of buildings and equipment at the Waste Water Treatment Plant.
SUPERVISION RECEIVEDWork is under the close supervision of an employee of a higher grade.
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK- Operate waste water treatment and sludge processing equipment.
- Inspect and perform preventative maintenance procedures such as oil and lubrication of equipment, changing filters and light bulbs.
- May work as pumping station operator.
- Keep records of work performed.
- Perform general maintenance on buildings, streets, grounds and equipment.
- Building maintenance includes painting, cleaning and repairing interior and exterior surfaces, doors, windows and furnishings.
- Equipment maintenance includes cleaning, painting and assisting operators or mechanics as necessary.
- Operate equipment such as tractor mower, power mower, lawn maintenance and other power‑drive equipment that might be used for the maintenance, repair and modification of the buildings and grounds at the Waste Water Treatment Plant.
- Inspect and perform minor service, repairs and adjustments on equipment.
- Inspect and perform tasks such as rough carpentry and cement work.
- Assist lab staff in taking grab samples, spot tests and in routinely maintaining samplers.
- May be assigned to assist an employee in another classification, including more complicated tasks.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS- Working knowledge of the functions, methods, operation and mechanics of a waste water treatment plant and its equipment.
- Working knowledge of the proper methods of cleaning and oiling machinery.
- General mechanical ability.
- Reasonable knowledge of the materials, tools, methods and work techniques used in the maintenance of the buildings and grounds at the Waste Water Treatment Plant.
- Reasonable knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary for protection of employees.
- Ability to operate mobile equipment and tools used to perform the duties described in this classification.
- Ability to perform heavy manual tasks.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to maintain simple records.
- Willingness to perform unpleasant and/or dirty tasks as required.
- Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with the public and other employees.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. Original diploma required with application.
- Experience in the operation of a personnel computer.
- Successful completion of a minimum of one year of full-time schooling beyond the high school level in a mechanical trade, pre‑engineering curriculum, or applied science or applied technology curriculum, or hold a Michigan Class D operator’s license. Official, sealed transcripts or copy of license required at time of application.
- Possession of a license to operate a motor vehicle in the State of Michigan.
- Driving record must meet the city standards to be insurable.
$21.45/hour - $27.93/hour (After 3 years)
