DescriptionReporting to the Associate Vice President for Capital Planning and Facilities, this position leads day‑to‑day maintenance operations for approximately 4,000,000 sq ft across 115 campus buildings. The role plans, organizes, directs, and controls all activities of the Facility Maintenance Departments, ensuring proactive maintenance, safety, and quality standards while coordinating with multiple stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities- Campus Operations Management and Oversight (65%):
Plan, direct, and monitor all Facility Maintenance activities; schedule staff; approve time, inspect work, coordinate leave, conduct performance reviews, and discipline employees as needed; establish quality standards and policies; provide technical assistance; support staff development; participate in strategic goal setting. - Preventive Maintenance Oversight and Safety (20%):
Plan and oversee preventive maintenance programs for electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and other building systems; schedule inspections and repairs; maintain safety and regulatory compliance; preserve university assets. - Strategic Support & Collaboration (10%):
Communicate with campus constituents and vendors to coordinate work minimizing disruption; collaborate with Procurement to manage vendor contracts; support senior management. - Budget Management (5%):
Manage departmental budgets, monitor expenditures, and ensure financial stewardship.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Facility Planning or Management, or related field (AA, BA/BS, MAIMS substitutions as noted).
- Experience: Minimum five years of progressive facility‑maintenance management experience; three years supervisory experience; CMMS experience and campus environment experience preferred.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Expert knowledge of facilities planning, management, project and personnel management, capital planning, and financial management.
- Strong leadership, collaboration, administrative, and communication skills.
- Ability to respond to inquiries, interpret documents, negotiate contracts, manage multiple priorities, and use data for performance management.
- Licenses &
Certifications:
Preferred mechanical, electrical, HVAC, or plumbing trade license obtained within six months; valid driver’s license required. - Supervisory & Budget Responsibilities: Up to 4 direct employees; up to 200 indirect employees.
- Supplemental Information: Potential exposure to fumes, chemicals; ability to lift 50 lbs; work at heights; availability for emergencies and after‑hours duty.
