Student University Worker

Job Description

Under the general direction of the Grounds Supervisor or designated staff, assist the Facilities Planning & Operations Grounds Department with maintaining the appearance, cleanliness, and general upkeep of university grounds, landscaping, and outdoor campus areas.

Examples of Duties

Duties Include:

  • Mow, trim, edge, rake, weed, mulch, and water lawns and landscaped areas.
  • Remove litter and debris from sidewalks, parking lots, roadways, and outdoor spaces.
  • Assist with planting flowers, shrubs, trees, and other landscaping materials.
  • Operate basic hand tools and grounds equipment in accordance with safety procedures.
  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of tools and equipment.
  • Assist with leaf collection and seasonal grounds maintenance activities.
  • Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Comply with all university safety and risk management policies and procedures.
  • Report all accidents, injuries, and unsafe conditions in a timely manner.
  • Participate in safety meetings and assigned training as required.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Assist with campus event support and general labor assignments, to include:

  • Assist with setup and teardown for university functions and special events.
  • Support departmental operations through general labor and cleanup activities.

Assist with seasonal and weather-related operations, to include:

  • Assist with snow and ice removal operations as directed.
  • Spread salt or ice melt materials on sidewalks and entryways.
  • Perform weather-related cleanup and storm recovery assistance as needed.

Complete other duties as assigned by supervisory staff.

Typical Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Must be enrolled as a student at the University.

Experience:

  • Previous grounds, landscaping, custodial, or general labor experience preferred but not required.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license may be required depending on assignment.
Supplemental Information

Working Hours:

  • Monday
    - Friday, hours vary
  • No more than 20 hours per week

Full-time staff & 12-month faculty benefits-eligible position:
