Position: Maintenance Group Leader - General Assembly (Seat Production)

Position Summary

The Maintenance Group Leader is responsible for leading a team of maintenance technicians to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of manufacturing equipment within a high-volume automotive assembly environment. This role oversees preventive and predictive maintenance programs, troubleshooting and repair activities, and continuous improvement initiatives that support production goals while minimizing downtime. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with proven leadership experience in automated manufacturing operations and a commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.

Team

Leadership & Supervision
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of mechanical, electrical, and controls maintenance technicians.
  • Assign daily work activities and prioritize maintenance requests and equipment breakdowns.
  • Conduct performance reviews, establish development goals, and support employee growth.
  • Facilitate effective shift handoffs and communicate production priorities.
  • Promote a positive work environment focused on teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and operational standards.
Safety & Regulatory Compliance
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety requirements.
  • Lead Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) compliance efforts and safe work practices.
  • Conduct safety audits, toolbox talks, and risk assessments.
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of hazardous materials.
  • Support compliance with environmental regulations and sustainability initiatives.
Preventive & Predictive Maintenance
  • Ensure preventive maintenance schedules are completed on time and accurately documented.
  • Improve maintenance processes to reduce reactive maintenance and equipment downtime.
  • Support condition-based monitoring and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Analyze maintenance records to identify recurring equipment issues and corrective actions.
Equipment Troubleshooting & Technical Support
  • Provide hands‑on support for complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and controls‑related issues.
  • Troubleshoot and support automated assembly systems, conveyors, robotics, and torque‑controlled equipment.
  • Assist with PLC, HMI, VFD, and servo system troubleshooting.
  • Partner with engineering teams on equipment upgrades, modifications, and process improvements.
Continuous Improvement
  • Lead equipment reliability and process improvement projects.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce downtime, improve productivity, and lower maintenance costs.
  • Support Lean Manufacturing initiatives, Kaizen events, and root cause analysis activities.
  • Drive workplace organization through 5S principles and best practices.
Quality & Production Support
  • Ensure equipment performance supports production schedules and quality objectives.
  • Partner with Quality and Production teams to resolve non‑conformances and implement corrective actions.
  • Support adherence to customer requirements and internal quality standards.
Spare Parts & Inventory Management
  • Monitor and maintain critical spare parts inventory levels.
  • Assist with maintenance budgeting and cost control initiatives.
  • Coordinate with purchasing teams to procure required components and materials.
  • Identify obsolete parts and recommend replacement strategies.
Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records within the CMMS system.
  • Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs), including uptime, downtime, OEE, labor efficiency, and maintenance costs.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly performance reports.
  • Support audits, investigations, and compliance documentation requirements.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years of related manufacturing or maintenance experience; advanced degrees may offset experience requirements.
  • At least 2 years of leadership experience as a Maintenance Supervisor, Maintenance Group Leader, or similar role in a manufacturing environment.
  • Automotive manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs, equipment reliability initiatives, and process efficiency improvements.
