Facilities Maintenance Technician
The Facility Maintenance Technician is responsible for the overall care, safety, cleanliness, and operational functionality of Chesterton Academy of Our Lady of Hope's building and chapel. This role ensures that all school facilities are clean, safe, well-maintained, and fully operational to support daily academic life and school events. This position includes hands-on maintenance, cleaning oversight, systems management, equipment organization, and event setup support.
The Facility Maintenance Technician serves as the primary steward of the physical environment of the school. This position reports directly to the Director of School Operations.
Core Responsibilities
- Building Maintenance & Repairs
-Perform routine maintenance and repairs across school and chapel
-Handle painting, patching, and minor repairs
-Maintain overall building condition and appearance
-Address maintenance issues promptly - Cleaning & Janitorial Operations
-Clean and maintain restrooms daily
-Sweep, mop, and maintain floors
-Manage trash removal throughout building
-Maintain cleanliness of classrooms, offices, and common areas
-Ensure cleaning standards are consistently met - Waste & Facility Systems Management
-Oversee dumpsters, recycling, and trash procedures
-Ensure proper waste handling and compliance procedures
-Coordinate waste pickup schedules - Building Systems Oversight
-Monitor and maintain:
-School facility ticket system:
Raiseaticket app
-Boiler / heating systems
-HVAC / air conditioning systems
-Alarm and security systems
-Bell system
-Door access code system
-Coordinate service vendors as needed - Equipment & Property Management
-Maintain cleaning supplies and equipment
-Manage school property including:
Tables Chairs Tents Speakers Event equipment
-Ensure proper storage and organization - Event & After-Hours Support
-Set up and break down for school events
-Prepare building for evening/weekend activities
-Support athletics, events, and community functions
-Ensure building security after events
-Manage and own Use of School Buildings Protocol for School & Non--School Use
Qualifications
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Comfortable speaking with families, pastors, and community members when needed
- Experience in facilities management, maintenance, or custodial work preferred
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and.
