STEM Math-Computer Science Educator – Summer Opportunity
This is a staff position required as part of the School2
Lab program of H2
CAREE, Howard - Hopkins Comprehensive Partnerships to Advance Cancer Health (HH-CPACH), funded by the NCI/U54. We seek a passionate and experienced high school mathematics and computer sciences teacher to engage rising high school students in an 8-week summer enrichment program. This program aims to enhance students’ understanding of mathematics and programming concepts, preparing them for advanced science and engineering studies.
Supervisory Authority
The summer teacher will have supervisory authority over the high school interns during the summer program, other program students, visitors, waged instructors for the program.
Nature And Scope
Internal contacts may include senior administrators, faculty, students, the research office, and staff. External contacts may include vendors, consultants, accrediting agencies, national/international research agencies, program coordinators in sister institutions and partners, and the general public.
Principal Accountabilities
- Design or customize mathematics and computer science curriculum if needed.
- Deliver a structured 8-week math curriculum that supports the objectives of the School2
Lab program and the academic needs of high school students at both campuses. - Develop engaging, hands-on activities and projects that connect math concepts with practical applications in science and laboratory settings.
- Provide additional academic support as needed, fostering a collaborative and inclusive classroom environment.
- Assess students' progress, offering constructive feedback to support their learning.
- Coordinate with program staff and mentors to align instructional strategies with the broader goals of School2
Lab.
Core Competencies
- Lead, direct and execute the mathematics and computer sciences curriculum for the School2
Lab high school STEM internship program. - Ability to develop and maintain proficiency in the utilization of Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint and related software applications to perform a variety of typing and/or project assignments.
- Experience with high school teaching science, mathematics, and laboratory skills.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mathematics, Science education, or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience teaching high school mathematics and computer programming.
- Experience with educational outreach or enrichment programs, preferably with high school students.
- Strong commitment to promoting diversity and supporting students from underrepresented backgrounds in STEM fields.
