The Parent Coordinator, under the direct supervision of the Family Services Program Manager is responsible for developing and implementing parenting workshops, parenting‑skills course, and other community education and awareness events related to the promotion of strong families and the prevention of child abuse and neglect. Using a strengths‑based approach, the incumbent will conduct outreach to community schools and organizations to build partnerships, facilitate groups and workshops, and provide participants with follow‑up information and referrals.

The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining records pertaining to group sessions and recording outcomes for quality assurance and reporting purposes. The incumbent will be required to attend community meetings and information fairs related to parenting issues and to maintain relationships with schools, early childhood education centers, and community agencies.

Principle Accountabilities Facilitation of Multi‑Session Groups

Facilitate parenting‑skills courses using established curriculum and solution‑focused brief therapy skills. Engage parents in meaningful conversations during group sessions and use knowledge of group dynamics to guide discussions. Document group attendance and other outcome measures including pre‑ and post‑tests and participant evaluation forms.

Facilitation of Workshops

Organize and facilitate workshops and presentations for parents and other community groups to build awareness and share information regarding child welfare related topics. Document group attendance and collect information for outcome measures including participant evaluation forms.

Collaboration

Maintain relationships with other community agencies, schools, early childhood education centers, and service providers to be able to collaborate on the development and implementation of workshops and courses and to develop referral partnerships for other Family Service Division programs. Develop memorandum of understanding with other organizations when appropriate. Work with community partners to develop potential co‑facilitators to help create sustainability of programs.

Participate in internal and external meetings in spirit of mutual support of families to advocate for needed resources and services and to ensure families are provided with all possible resources available.

Program

Participate and provides information as needed to appropriate personnel in the development of new programs and initiatives. Promotes program throughout other areas of the agency and the city and provides support to families enrolled in other agency programs. Identify gaps in services to children and families and suggest methods or plans to address gaps in services using both internal and external resources.

New

Staff –

Provide leadership and actively engage new staff in developing knowledge of CSC, the strengths‑based approach, and the framework in which community based social work practices are implemented. Act as a resource for new staff by providing guidance and support when necessary.

Training

Train participants using the ACT Facilitator Manual, Raising Safe Kids Program. Provide instructions and skills on early violence prevention and positive parenting practices to adults who raise and care for children from birth to age 8. Weekly group session meetings with Parents must be held to facilitate consistent training leading to Parents success.

Education

Bachelor and /or Master ’s Degree in Social Work or with license.

Experience

At least 3 years of experience in social services or individual client‑based service. Demonstrated organizational and leadership skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks.
