Overview
The George Washington University (GW) Office of Study Abroad (OSA) seeks a Study Abroad Coordinator to support the student population within the Elliott School of International Affairs (ESIA) and GW School of Business (GWSB). This position administers one or more student programs, including planning, event execution, financial activities, and marketing. This role advises students by providing support and development at a transactional, relational, and transformational level.
It communicates policies and procedures, proactively identifies problematic issues, facilitates relationships, plans, advises on policies, and works with students to support their goals and needs.
The OSA provides and facilitates quality international educational opportunities educators, we promote students’ academic, personal, professional, and intercultural development before, during, and after their study abroad experiences. We respond effectively to individual student needs, while fostering cultural understanding and self-awareness throughout the student body and contributing to an increasingly international campus. The OSA primarily works with undergraduate students for semester and year-long study abroad programming.
The Study Abroad Coordinator, through direct contact with students and communication with parents, campus partners, and other stakeholders, contributes to university priorities of internationalization, inclusion, retention and quality academic and experiential learning.
Responsibilities include:
- Counseling students on university-approved study abroad programs, policies, and regulations, including conveying information on admission requirements, registration procedures, and transfer credit practices.
- Facilitating programs and activities, including outreach related to the study abroad fair and pre-departure orientation, organization of student events, coordination with related campus departments and partner organizations, marketing of programs, and reporting on statistics.
- Collaborating and communicating with appropriate departments and partner organizations.
- Promoting programs through speaking engagements and participating in professional organizations. Producing communications such as newsletters, web content, brochures, and social media.
- Maintaining student records and program files and managing applications in Terra Dotta.
- Evaluating study abroad applications for admission consideration.
The position is based at GW’s Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties.
Minimum QualificationsQualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Preferred Qualifications- BA degree, or higher preferred.
- Experience with academic curriculum in study abroad is preferred.
- Experience working in a study abroad office/university advising team is preferred.
- Ability to work well with academic and student services offices.
- Strong written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and function in a high volume/high traffic office setting.
- Familiarity with student records systems and knowledge of Banner is preferred.
- Proficiency with technology/data collection and analysis.
- Understanding of how to leverage scholarship funds strategically is preferred.
- Prior experience working with Terra Dotta software is preferred.
- Prior experience studying, working or living abroad is preferred.
- Commitment to diversity and inclusion in study abroad at GW.
- Ability to commit to a full in-office work schedule.
- Ability to work some nights and weekends as needed.
- Hiring Range: $45,925.13 - $63,191.56
