Strong math skills are essential to learner confidence, persistence, and success on High School Equivalency exams and beyond. As a Math Adjunct Instructor, you play a critical role in helping adult learners build foundational and advanced mathematical skills while balancing school with work, family, and other responsibilities.
** What You’ll Do
**** Instruction & Learner Support
*** Teach in-person evening math courses supporting GED and high school equivalency preparation
* Provide instruction across multiple math levels, which may include: +
** Level 1:
** Foundational numeracy, whole numbers, basic operations, and simple fractions +
** Level 2:
** Fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, proportions, measurement, and introduction to integers +
** Level 3:
** Pre-algebra concepts, including order of operations, equations, inequalities, and basic geometry +
** Level 4:
** Algebra, geometry, data interpretation, and probability aligned with GED readiness +
** Level 5:
** Advanced GED-level mathematical reasoning, including functions, systems of equations, polynomials, and applied data analysis
* Develop and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lesson plans tailored to adult learners
* Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning styles, skill levels, and learning needs
* Foster an inclusive, supportive classroom environment that builds learner confidence and persistence
** Assessment & Progress Monitoring
*** Assess learner progress regularly using formative and summative assessments
* Use assessment data to inform instruction, pacing, and targeted intervention
* Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and assessment records
** Collaboration & Program Support
*** Collaborate with instructors, academic staff, and campus leadership to support learner success
* Coordinate with Student Support Services to ensure learners have access to appropriate wraparound supports
* Participate in required meetings, professional learning activities, and instructional collaboration as scheduled
** Who You Are
** You are an engaging and organized instructor who understands how adults learn and brings clarity, patience, and structure to math instruction. You hold a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, math education, secondary education with a math concentration, adult education, or a related field. You have experience teaching math at the secondary or adult education level and are familiar with GED-aligned standards and assessments.
You communicate effectively with diverse learners and are committed to equity, inclusion, and learner-centered teaching. Experience working with adult learners and learners with special needs is strongly valued.
