SummaryNew Student & Family Programs intentionally guides, challenges, and supports undergraduate students as they grow and thrive as members of the AU community on campus and beyond. As part of the New Student & Family Programs (NSFP) team, the Graduate Assistant for Family Engagement supports the design and implementation of effective onboarding programs and resources that prepare new undergraduate students for their transition to AU while engaging with their families as partners.
Job DescriptionThe Graduate Assistant for Family Engagement directly supports the Associate Director, Family Engagement with the strategic priorities and framework set by the Director, New Student & Family Programs for family programming inclusive of, but not limited to, Families and Supporters Orientation (FSO), Family Weekend, the Eagle Family Webinar Series, and communications to family members. Additionally, the Graduate Assistant will assist with other office programming including New Student Orientation, All-American Welcome, Pre-Orientation Programs, and District Adventures, as needed.
EssentialFunctions
- Assist in development and publishing resources for Family & Supporters Orientation.
- Support the creation and execution of Family Weekend programming, including organizing and overseeing the student staff needs, roles, responsibilities, and expectations.
- Provide support for student and family webinars.
- Work with campus partners to update and publish the Student Guide/Calendar and the Family Guide/Calendar.
- Assist with the analysis of assessment and evaluation data for all office programs to improve student and family engagement.
- Develop, publish, and monitor social media content across all office platforms.
- Staff New Student & Family Programs events as needed, and serve as the in-program supervisor for student staff during NSFP-wide events.
- Assist with the interview, selection, and training process for Office Assistants, Orientation Chairs, and Orientation Leaders.
- Conduct benchmark research against similar institutions to enhance programming.
- Provide occasional office front desk support as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.

Leadership involves both the individual role of a leader and the leadership process of individuals working together to envision, plan, and affect change in organizations and respond to broad-based constituencies and issues. - Organizational and Human Resources:
Includes knowledge, skills, and dispositions used in the management of institutional human capital, financial, and physical resources. It recognizes that student affairs professionals bring personal strengths and grow as managers through challenging themselves to build new skills in the selection, supervision, motivation, and formal evaluation of staff; resolution of conflict; management of the politics of organizational discourse; and the effective application of strategies and techniques associated with financial resources, facilities management, fundraising, technology, crisis management, risk management, and sustainable resources. - Student Learning and Development:
Addresses the concepts and principles of student development and learning theory. This includes the ability to apply theory to improve and inform student affairs and teaching practice. - Technology:
Focuses on the use of digital tools, resources, and technologies for the advancement of student learning, development, and success as well as the improved performance of student affairs professionals.
