About the School
Georgetown Day School opened its doors in 1945 as the first integrated school in a segregated city. Governed by a Board of Trustees elected by the parent body and administered by an appointed Head of School, it was founded by seven families who wanted to create a school committed not only to academic excellence and educational innovation but also to a value system emphasizing appreciation and respect for others.

Since the school's founding, GDS has called eight different locations home. In the fall of 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, the Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools were all joined on one extraordinary campus.

Georgetown Day School, an independent, co-ed day school in Washington, D.C., seeks a dynamic and engaging Middle School science teacher for the  school year. Primary responsibilities include teaching four sections of science and serving as an advisor. The ideal candidate will have a background in the natural and physical sciences. Deep knowledge of one's subject, enthusiasm for teaching middle schoolers, and a willingness to collaborate with colleagues are the hallmarks of the GDS MS faculty.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Teach four sections of middle school science.
• Design and implement innovative and rigorous science lessons that align with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)
• Develop assessments to monitor student progress and provide frequent constructive feedback
• Lead laboratory and investigative activities, ensuring safety protocols are followed
• Serve as a middle school advisor, supporting the academic and social well-being of a small group of students, and steward the family/school partnership
• Attend additional meetings and responsibilities beyond school hours, as needed
• Attend grade-level trips as assigned

• Fulfill other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree is required
• Concentration in Biology, Chemistry, or Physics, or a related discipline in Science Education, is preferred
• Master's degree is preferred
• 3 or more years of teaching experience strongly preferred
• Significant experience working with early adolescents is strongly preferred
