The Department of Campus Recreation aims to provide fun, inclusive, and engaging recreational programming and facilities for the university's diverse community in the areas of intramural and sport clubs, fitness and wellness instruction and informal recreational opportunities.
Position Specific Summary
Group Fitness Instructors lead group-based instruction for a variety of formats as part of Campus Recreation programming on both Foggy Bottom and Mount Vernon campuses. Instructors lead at least one class/week on a regular weekly schedule. They provide a fun, inclusive, and supportive environment for participants to explore movement and exercise.
General responsibilities include:
- Provide a safe, friendly, and fun environment for GW student, staff, faculty, and community participants
- Demonstrate instructional skills, strategies, and knowledge of group fitness components
- Maintain general organization of studio equipment and technology
- Know, follow, and enforce Campus Recreation policies and procedures
- Attend meetings and continuous training opportunities as provided
Students in this position are responsible for providing instruction in a traditional classroom setting for secondary education students, fitness class, continuing education class, or non-college credit courses.
* Individuals instructing college credited courses must be hired through the Office Graduate Assistantships and Fellowships. Tasks may include: preparing lesson plans, providing and grading assignments, providing feedback, mentoring and encouraging students. Special projects or other duties may be assigned related to specific departmental needs.

Student must hold applicable certifications, licenses, or degrees.
Preferred Qualifications
Have current certification(s) for instruction of applicant's intended instruction format(s)
Maintain active certification renewal(s) for applicant's intended instruction format(s);
Adult CPR/AED/ First Aid Certification;
Prior experience teaching/leading group classes or facilitation in group spaces.
