K–5 Music Teacher

Bridge Prep is a unique, mission driven public charter elementary school on Staten Island. We are dedicated to providing a student-centered educational option for our students, many of whom have dyslexia or other language-based reading difficulties. At Bridge Prep, we ensure that our students gain the skills and confidence to meet their full academic potential. Our academic offerings are rooted in our commitment to the Science of Reading and multisensory instruction approaches which provide all students with an experience focused on academic and personal growth through targeted support. All our staff members share the same belief that all students can learn, regardless of their differing learning styles or academic ability, if they are provided with the necessary and appropriate learning environment.

Music teachers are critical to fostering creativity, confidence, and a love of music while contributing to Bridge Prep's culture of achievement. We are seeking an innovative, talented, and dedicated K–5 Music Teacher to bring their passion for music education, creativity, and energy to our collaborative, student-centered learning environment. The ideal candidate is committed to inspiring young musicians through engaging, standards-based instruction, creating meaningful performance opportunities, and cultivating an inclusive classroom where every student can develop musical skills, self-expression, and an appreciation for the arts.

Essential Functions:

  • Deliver engaging, standards-based music instruction that fosters creativity, musical literacy, and a lifelong appreciation for music.
  • Teach foundational music skills through singing, movement, instruments, rhythm, and performance-based learning.
  • Plan and lead student performances, concerts, assemblies, and other school music events throughout the year.
  • Create an inclusive, joyful classroom environment where all students are encouraged to develop confidence and self-expression through music.
  • Maintain music classroom resources, including instruments, equipment, and instructional materials, while collaborating with colleagues to enrich the school community.
  • Create a collaborative and supportive learning environment where all students can learn.
  • Plan and facilitate engaging lessons in alignment with any relevant NY State Standards.
  • Build students' academic and social emotional skills through modeling and explicit instruction.
  • Engage in Professional Learning opportunities to improve knowledge and skills with the purpose of increasing student engagement and achievement.
  • Maintain regular and open communication with families to promote the success and growth of all students and promote family participation, inclusion and collaboration.

Reporting:
This is a full time position reporting to the Principal or their designee(s).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree
  • Experience working with students at a variety of academic levels in relevant field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree
  • A current New York State (or other state) teaching certification in the relevant field
  • Evidence of strong classroom management skills
  • Experience with remediation strategies for students of varying ability levels
  • Experience in data evaluation and applied decision making
