Job Description:

Summary:

The Assistant Director position is responsible for the admissionand recruitment of transfer applicants, including recruitmenttravel, as well as application evaluation. This position is alsoresponsible for assisting with the coordination and staffing ofon-campus programs and online events for prospective students, and assisting with first-year recruitment efforts, as needed. Thenumber of transfer applications that the Assistant Director reviewsranges from six hundred to one thousand annually.

This position will also review first-year applications on an as-needed basis.

This position requires minimal supervision.

Essential Functions:
  • Reads and evaluates applications for undergraduate admission;makes decisions or refers to the Director of Admissions.
  • Conducts recruitment travel; participates in community collegevisits, college fairs, high school visits, as needed, and other regional events.
  • Provides guidance, expertise and recommendations to prospective students, parents, alumni, guidance counselors and transferadvisors; conducts outreach to this population. Works closely withother offices/departments on-campus. Examples include Office of the Registrar, financial aid, athletics, and academic divisions.
  • Conducts on-campus information sessions and interviews for prospective students and their parents; gives overview of university programs/majors, student life and the admissions process. Participates in campus and online events.
  • Develops and implements recruitment strategies and plans forthe transfer population. Analyzes results of previous years’activities and then develops and executes a comprehensive,integrated plan for both fall and spring travel/visits/events eachyear involving outreach to prospective students, parents, transferadvisors, high school counselors, alumni and others.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
  • Full-time.
  • 35 hours per week.
  • Evening and weekend work required.
Salary Range:
  • $59,000.00 - $65,000.00 annually.
Required

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 1 - 3 years of relevant experience.
  • At least 1 years of professional experience in admissions orrelated areas.
Preferred

Education and Experience:
  • Master's degree or equivalent.
Travel Required:
  • Yes, travel is required.

  • Knowledge of trends and practices in higher education.
  • Writing ability.
  • Ability to represent the University and demonstrate highly developed interpersonal and public speaking skills.
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability.
  • Computer skills.
  • Organizational skills and ability to conduct demographic and historical research as it pertains to American University’sapplicant trends.
  • Ability to contribute to a team-oriented environment within the Office of Enrollment.
