POSITION OVERVIEW

The GED Services and Testing Specialist coordinates learner-centered GED pathway and testing services from initial orientation through credential completion. The Specialist helps learners understand testing options, assess readiness, develop individualized testing plans, schedule examinations, access academic and nonacademic supports, and navigate diploma and transcript processes. The role also maintains accurate testing records, monitors learner progress and performance targets, and partners across Academics, Student Support, Testing and Tutoring, and Career and College Services to remove barriers and help adult learners reach their goals.

ESSENTIAL

FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES LEARNER ASSESSMENT, READINESS, AND REGISTRATION
  • Explain the GED pathway, testing process, eligibility requirements, and available supports to prospective and enrolled learners through orientations, information sessions, and individual coaching.
  • Conduct individualized pathway conversations with upper-level ABE learners and others considering a high school credential to help them make informed decisions about GED and other available completion options.
  • Administer and coordinate readiness activities, including GED Ready practice tests, computer and calculator tutorials, and digital-literacy assessments such as Northstar, in accordance with applicable procedures.
  • Assist learners with creating, registering, validating, and maintaining MyGED accounts and resolving routine account or registration barriers.
  • Verify that learners meet identification, residency, and other testing requirements before appointments are scheduled.
  • Guide learners through the testing-accommodation request process and coordinate documentation and follow-up while maintaining confidentiality.
GED PATHWAY COACHING AND LEARNER SUPPORT
  • Develop individualized testing plans with clear milestones, target dates, and regular check-ins; update plans as learner needs or assessment results change.
  • Collaborate with principals, assistant principals, teachers, tutors, and Student Support staff to align academic plans, learner schedules, testing readiness, and wraparound supports.
  • Use GED Enhanced Score Reports and other assessment data to help learners build focused study plans and connect them with tutoring, instructional materials, calculators, technology, and other needed resources.
  • Navigate learners through the full testing process, including exam scheduling, reminders, rescheduling, score review, and next-step planning.
  • Plan and facilitate learner cohorts, workshops, boot camps, study sessions, and other evidence-informed activities that strengthen preparation, persistence, and completion.
  • Partner with Career and College Services and Workforce programs to help learners connect credential attainment to postsecondary education, training, and employment goals.
  • Conduct timely outreach to learners who miss appointments, pause testing, or disengage, and coordinate reentry supports that encourage completion.
TESTING OPERATIONS, DATA MANAGEMENT, AND REPORTING
  • Implement and maintain consistent workflows, calendars, checklists, and communication practices that support efficient and equitable testing services.
  • Manage the inventory, issuance, reconciliation, and documentation of GED Ready and official GED testing vouchers in accordance with organizational procedures.
  • Enter testing activity, assessment results, appointments, learner contacts, and coaching notes accurately and promptly in the student information system and other designated platforms.
