Job Description:Summary:
We are looking for dynamic Language Coaches to join the CLEAR team.
The people in this position help AU Students currently enrolled ina World Languages course at American University to develop theirworld languages skills.
The Center for Language Exploration, Acquisition, and Research(CLEAR) supports the work done by the faculty in the department of World Languages and Cultures at American University by hosting staff and resources to enhance the language courses offered oncampus and to facilitate AU students’ language learning experience overall.
CLEAR is the perfect place for you to share your language andculture with other students at AU and to embrace different cultures throughout the Academic Year. One of CLEAR’s most sought after resources is its language coaching team:
It is made up of native speakers of all the languages taught on campus. Depending on thenumber of students taking any one language on a given semester,individual language coaching teams can contain as many as 5 peopleor as few as 1 person.
- Support the work done by the faculty in the department of World Languages and Cultures at American University.
- Host staff and resources to enhance the language courses offered on campus and to facilitate AU students’ language learning experience overall.
- Other duties assigned.
- Part-time.
- 10 hours per week.
- $18.40 - $20.00 per hour.
Education and Experience:
- Be a native or highly fluent speaker of the language you intendto coach:
Familiarity with grammar structure and vocabulary and the ability to communicate this knowledge to others is necessary.
Candidates will be tested to assess their grammatical, oral and writing skills in the target language and must be vetted by facultyin their intended language program. - Previous experience with teaching and/or training is highly desired.
- Punctuality and reliability are essential.
Qualifications:
- Bring your energy and passion to the target language youcoach.
- Complete required training sessions.
- Continue to sharpen your knowledge in teaching your language.
- Welcome students and visitors.
- Help students schedule, reschedule, and attend coaching appointments.
- Ensure resources are allocated to their designated locations and ensure items are in good working order.
- Work as part of a team: collaborate and help your teammates when needed.
- Present one proposal for your language for a language related cultural event each semester.
- Assist with tasks as needed when not coaching.
- Work short shifts:
Most shifts are 2 hours (max) per day, with weekly commitments set between 6 to 8 hours per week. Some Sunday hours may be required. - Have fun! Share your language and culture with us!
