The mission of the Honey W. Nashman Center for Civic Engagement and Public Service is to integrate civic engagement into George Washington University’s educational work. We promote equity and active citizenship in a diverse democracy, focus GW’s resources to address community needs through reciprocal partnerships beyond the campus, and enhance teaching, learning, and scholarship at GW.

Position Specific Summary

GW SMART DC enables George Washington University tutors to build the literacy and math skills of K-8 students in the District of Columbia through one-on-one or small group tutoring, while also fostering meaningful relationships. Through SMARTDC , students work with a community partner to address the learning needs of DC students. Students serve at least a full academic year and gain perspective through cultivating leadership skills and building a diverse network at GW and beyond.

Standard Position Description

The student will provide tutoring services for early childhood literacy and middle school math. Tasks may include: build literacy and math skills with early childhood in small groups or one-on-one, or virtually. Special projects or other duties may be assigned related to specific departmental needs.

Required Qualifications

This is an entry level position, little to no experience required, all training will be provided (Students working in an instructional capacity should be very familiar with the subject area in which they are working).
