Position OverviewThe Middle School Special Education Reading Inclusion Teacher will provide targeted instruction and support to students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) within inclusion and small-group settings. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative educator who can deliver specialized reading interventions, adapt the general education curriculum, and partner effectively with teachers and families to ensure academic and social success for all learners.
This teacher will work closely with the general education ELA team and the campus Student Support team to ensure that all students have access to rigorous, grade-level content and receive the supports they need to thrive.
Key ResponsibilitiesInstruction & Intervention
- Provide differentiated instruction and reading interventions aligned to students’ IEP goals.
- Co-teach and co-plan with general education ELA teachers to support inclusion classrooms.
- Utilize data to monitor progress and adjust instruction to meet student needs.
- Implement research-based literacy strategies, including phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing supports.
IEP & Compliance
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Conduct progress monitoring and maintain accurate records of student performance.
- Participate in IEP meetings, eligibility reviews, and multidisciplinary team discussions.
Collaboration & Communication
- Collaborate with general education teachers, instructional coaches, and related service providers to ensure inclusive practices.
- Communicate regularly with families about student progress and support strategies.
- Contribute to a positive, team-oriented school culture that upholds Center City’s mission and core values.
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field.
- Demonstrated experience in reading instruction and intervention, particularly with students who have learning differences.
- Strong understanding of IEP processes, differentiated instruction, and inclusive teaching practices.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Special Education, Reading, or a related field.
- Valid OSSE Special Education certification (or eligibility for certification).
- Experience working in an urban school environment.
- Training or certification in specialized reading programs
