Job OverviewIn accordance with a detailed cleaning plan, the incumbent performs general and specific cleaning and maintenance tasks to provide a clean, safe, and pleasant physical environment. The incumbent is responsible for cleaning up to 28,000–35,000 square feet of space per eight‑hour work day, and may perform additional tasks such as snow and ice removal, water or fire damage cleanup, and special event support.
Work is carried out under specific guidance from a supervisor and in collaboration with other custodial staff and facilities management teams.
The role reports directly to one of several Custodial Supervisors and may indirectly report to a Night Operations Manager, depending on shift assignment. The incumbent works alone or with others, and may be assigned by the Manager of Custodial Services, the Night Operations Manager, the Work Management Center, the Director of Facilities Management, the Resource Manager, the Infrastructure Manager, and other department managers.
Requirements& Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- At least one year of custodial work experience preferred
- Valid, current driver’s license from Maryland, Virginia, or District of Columbia
- Clear communication of custodial and maintenance problems to supervisors or the Work Management Center
- Completion of a building‑cleaning training program
This position is designated as On‑Campus. Work‑mode designations are reviewed regularly and may change to meet the evolving needs of the University.
