In accordance with a detailed cleaning plan, the incumbent performs general and specific cleaning and maintenance tasks to provide a clean, safe and pleasant physical environment. Performs other tasks as assigned in emergency or unusual situations. Tasks will be performed with specific guidance from supervisor. Examples of additional work to be performed include but are not limited to snow and ice removal, clean up associated with water or fire damage and special event support.
The incumbent is expected to clean up to 28, square feet of cleanable space per eight hour work day. Performance of duties involves using standard tools, equipment, materials and supplies of the trade and observance of all safety rules, regulations and precautions.
- Perform general and specific cleaning and maintenance tasks per the detailed cleaning plan.
- Clean 28, square feet of space per eight‑hour shift.
- Respond to emergency situations such as snow and ice removal, water or fire damage cleanup, and special event support.
- Use standard tools, equipment, and supplies while observing safety rules and regulations.
- Work independently or with others under supervision.
- Communicate custodial and maintenance problems clearly to supervisors and the Work Management Center.
This position reports directly to one of the Custodial Supervisors. Incumbent will work alone or with others and may be assigned tasks by the Manager of Custodial Services, Night Operations Manager, Work Management Center, Director of Facilities Management, Resource Manager, Infrastructure Manager, or other department managers. Incumbent represents the department to the university community and must behave professionally, adhere to attendance and clock‑in/out policies, and be flexible with schedule to accommodate emergency situations.
Requirements& Qualifications
- HS or GED preferred.
- One year of custodial work experience preferred.
- Valid and current driver’s license from Maryland, Virginia, or District of Columbia.
- Basic knowledge of English, including reading, writing, and speaking.
- Ability to relate custodial and maintenance problems clearly to supervisor or Work Management Center.
- Completion of a building‑cleaning training program required.
This position is designated as On‑Campus
