Position DetailsThe Janitorial Maintenance Worker performs a variety of general maintenance work and custodial tasks in District facilities in an orderly, safe, and sanitary manner. These tasks include, but are not limited to the following:
Employees show up to this location and are transported to work sites via DC Gov vehicles.
- Pay rate is $19.00/hr
- We offer full benefits (accrued paid sick leave, accrued vacation time, health insurance/dental/vision, eligible to sign up for 401k which we match up to 4%) - General janitorial position with Department of General Services, providing services to DC Gov buildings throughout the city
- Employees need reliable transportation because part of the positions on-call emergency services, such as pre-treating roads before snow.
Building and general maintenance work is normally performed indoors and grounds maintenance is performed outside during all four seasons in all types of weather. Skill and Knowledge PlumbingAbility to learn standard plumbing methods and techniques such as measure, cut, bend, and thread pipe and tile, and caulk and seal such things as elbows, union joints, tile pipe, faucets, and shower drains remove clean, reinstall , or replace joints and fixtures, for example traps, faucets, and unions. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and work with simple fractions. Ability to learn how to utilize tools and equipment such as tapes, rules, hacksaws, hand and power pipe threaders and cutters, packing and caulking irons, and pipe wrenches.
ElectricalAbility to perform minimal/limited electrical work. Ability to learn how to make repairs that can be accomplished by removing, replacing, tightening fixtures such as broken and bare wiring, burned out switches and relays, loose connections and fittings, and damaged light fixtures. Ability to complete needed repairs to installed systems, such as outlets, switches, light fixtures, regulators, and circuit breakers.
PaintingAbility to learn how to prepare standard surfaces and coating methods and techniques, e.g., removing such things as rust, dirt, and old paint from surfaces so that coating materials will adhere properly. Ability to sand wire brush, scrape, spackle, and putty surfaces; brush out roll on, and spray coating materials. Ability to read and follow oral directions that explain, how to apply and use prepared solvents and thin and stir coating materials, and use tools and equipment such as scrapers, wire brushes, putty knives, sandpaper, paintbrushes ,…
