Salary Range: $6,673 - $7,740 Monthly

The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Maintenance Mechanic 3 (MM3) at Airway Heights Corrections Center, located in Airway Heights, WA. AHCC is an adult male incarcerated prison corrections facility located approximately 10 miles west of Spokane, WA.

AHCC consists of a main facility that houses medium- and long-term minimum-custody I/I's. A separate perimeter adjacent to the main facility accommodates a minimum-security unit for I/I's with minimum-custody or lower. Whether the work is inside a prison, in community corrections, or in an administrative office, the Washington State Department of Corrections professional staff experience a high degree of personal satisfaction knowing they are creating environments in which all I/I can learn to make choices that contribute to a safer society.

Reporting to a Corrections Specialist 2 as a Maintenance Mechanic 3, some of your duties will include:

  • Work in any of the areas that require a Maintenance Mechanic
    3. Those areas include, but are not limited to:
    • recycle (waste management)
    • carpentry
    • painting
    • snow removal
    • facility maintenance
  • Assist other maintenance personnel with ongoing projects by working with them or supervising their Incarcerated Individual (I/I) crew in their absence.
  • Direct, supervise, train, evaluate and instruct I/I trainees in the performance of landscape and gardening maintenance and installation.
  • Direct, supervise, train, evaluate and instruct I/I’s trainees on the use, handling and application of pesticides.
  • Direct, supervise, train, evaluate and instruct I/I trainees on the operation, maintenance and safe usage of power equipment used in the lawn care, gardening trades and snow removal.
  • Direct, supervise, train, evaluate and instruct I/I trainees on irrigation systems design, operation, repair and installation.
  • Utilize Asset Planner program to document all work completed daily. This includes creating new service requests for jobs not previously documented.
  • Working with institutional staff to complete sanitation duties in areas that I/I are unauthorized to enter (such as control booths, towers, special team rooms, etc.).
    • Provide technical input for the I/I Custodial Training Program.
    • Manage stock and order supplies for custodial duties.
  • Other duties or tasks as assigned by the Facility Manager, Plant Manager(s) or Supervisor.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to lift 60 pounds.
  • Must possess a WSDA pesticide and SPI license
  • 1 year work experience performing or directing large scale commercial/institutional custodial sanitation duties.
  • OR
  • 1 year work experience in general repair, preventative maintenance, or light construction duties

  • Work experience operating heavy construction equipment (Examples include: forklift, backhoe, tractor, front end loader)
  • Work experience in the mechanical trades (Examples include HVAC, plumbing, electrical, general repair)
