Location: Bangor
Duties
* You will perform repairs pertaining to structural closures including seating surfaces, latches, hatches, timing gear mechanisms, and spring tension.
* You will roll, bend, flange, cut and otherwise shape plates, beams and other heavy metal structural shapes, using various shop machinery.
* You will prepare any required mold or template that is not supplied.
* You will mark holes to be drilled.
* You will locate and mark out reference lines and points, such as center lines, buttock lines and frame lines.
* You will conduct gasket seat chalk tests, precision leads, lug alignment bluing, and other various precision and functional tests to support the trouble shooting, planned maintenance, overhaul, and reassembly of all hatches and watertight doors.
* You will complete various forms and reports as well as perform Quality Assurance inspections on controlled work to verify the parts are within plan tolerance.
* You will perform all removals, inspections, repairs, and installations of submarine structural closures.
* You will set-up, adjust, machine, inspect and recertify watertight hatches using the MODEL 3 REFURB MACHINE, this includes refurbishing coaming seats, locking rings and Hatch seats.
* You will install and fit parts on ships.
* You will remove and repair or replace damaged parts of ship structures. Requirements Conditions of employment

* Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

* You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
* You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
* This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
* You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift. You must have successfully completed the SUBMARINE STRUCTURAL CLOSURE INSPECTION and REPAIR (SSCIR) course or been designated by NAVSEA to inspect, test, and re-certify submarine and submersible structural closures (including associated hatches, doors, fairings, and operators, but not including structural closure man hole covers). Applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations.
