JOB OBJECTIVE
The Split Shift Custodial & Grounds/Maintenance provides comprehensive custodial, grounds, and light maintenance services to ensure district facilities are clean, safe, secure, functional, and welcoming. This position is split between custodial duties and grounds/maintenance support and requires flexibility to respond to daily operational needs, seasonal demands, and school events. The employee works independently with minimal supervision while collaborating closely with custodial, grounds, and maintenance teams.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Custodial Services (Approximately 4 Hours Per Day)
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, cafeterias, locker rooms, and common areas.
- Sweep, dry mop, wet mop, vacuum carpets, spot clean stains, and operate floor scrubbers, buffers, and carpet extractors.
- Sanitize restrooms, drinking fountains, desks, countertops, high-touch surfaces, and replenish custodial supplies.
- Empty trash and recycling receptacles and properly dispose of waste.
- Perform mid-shift restroom and common area checks during instructional hours as assigned.
- Respond promptly to spills, accidents, bodily fluids, and other urgent cleaning needs in compliance with safety and blood borne pathogen procedures.
- Support school and community events, including room setup, teardown, and post-event cleaning.
- Lock/unlock doors, manage lights and security systems, and ensure building entrances and exits are safe and clean.
- Report hazards, vandalism, safety concerns, or repairs needing maintenance follow-up.
- Maintain a visible presence that supports a safe, orderly, and welcoming school environment.
- Assist with routine and preventative maintenance tasks such as minor plumbing, carpentry, electrical repairs, painting, wall patching, ceiling tile replacement, furniture repair, and fixture replacement within skill level.
- Perform grounds maintenance including mowing, edging, trimming, weeding, irrigation support, trash pickup, sidewalk sweeping, pressure washing, and noxious weed control.
- Maintain and repair playground equipment, fences, bleachers, outdoor structures, athletic fields, and walkways.
- Assist with seasonal duties such as snow and ice removal, leaf cleanup, and storm response.
- Support inspection, maintenance, and minor repair of HVAC, irrigation, drainage, asphalt, concrete, and exterior systems as directed.
- Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and grounds equipment including mowers, weed eaters, blowers, pressure washers, and tractors.
- Assist with moving furniture, equipment delivery, and building reconfiguration.
- Monitor building and grounds conditions and take action to protect district property.
- Respond to emergencies and unexpected situations as needed.
- Work cooperatively with custodial, grounds, maintenance staff, administrators, teachers, students, and community users.
- Follow district policies, procedures, safety and injury prevention programs, chemical handling guidelines, and environmental regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality and report suspected child abuse or neglect as required by law.
- Participate in required trainings, meetings, and professional development.
- Maintain a professional appearance and dependable attendance.
- Perform other duties as assigned consistent with the scope of the position.
