General
Job Description
The responsibilities of the head custodian are to perform custodial services to keep school facilities and grounds clean and orderly and to perform related duties as required by the custodial work schedule, ensuring that facilities are secure, clean, and orderly, checking the buildings and grounds daily for repairs, vandalism, and other needs.
Qualifications and Responsibilities
* High School education or equivalent and two (2) years of related work experience.
* The primary role of the custodian is to clean and maintain the school building and surrounding grounds.
* Responsible for the cleanliness and maintenance of facilities and grounds; checking the buildings and grounds daily for repair needs, vandalism, making sure the facilities are secure, or any other problems/needs.
* Responsible for reporting significant damages or concerns to the maintenance supervisor and building principal.
* Responsible for making sure the facilities are cleaned daily; ability to use common cleaning equipment safely and effectively.
* Responsible for minor maintenance, repair, painting, and replacement as required. (I.e., wood, electric, plumbing, etc.)
* Maintain the exterior areas of school by removing debris, picking up and disposing of litter on campus grounds, remove snow and ice from walks and driveways, and other tasks as needed for the purpose of maintaining campus grounds.
* Communicate daily both verbally and in writing and/or email in response to requests for custodial service needs, with supervisors, and other district custodial staff for the purpose of meeting building needs
* Ability to access the computerized heating system and adjust as needed.
* Maintain updated knowledge of school policies and procedures that affect this position.
* Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports.
* Knowledge of approved methods, materials and equipment used in custodial work.
* Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
* Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
* Basic knowledge and ability in the use of computers
* Physical ability to do manual work associated with custodial duties including walking, climbing, lifting, carrying, etc.
* Physical ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
* Demonstrated ability to interact positively in interpersonal relationships in job situations beyond receiving work instructions, interacting with faculty, students, and the public.
* Ability to organize self and be attentive to details.
* Ability to maintain total confidentiality in all work assignments.
* Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision.
* Ability to communicate effectively.
* Other duties as assigned.
Terms of Employment
* Five days/week;
Monday - Friday; 8.0 hours/day
* Hourly rate of pay shall be $29.67/hr. based upon the salary schedule
* Benefits in accordance with the SEBB/Health Care Authority (Medical, Dental, Vision, LTD, Life insurance)
* For qualifying positions, employees are offered enrollment with the Washington State Retirement Plan
