Job Title
Starting Date: Immediately
Position Information8 hours per day, 10:00am to 6:30pm with a 30 minute lunch. 260 days per year.
PSE Scale – Custodian
Essential Functions- Arranges furnishings and equipment for meetings, classroom activities, and special events.
- Attends in‑service training (e.g., blood borne pathogens, cleaning solvents, floor care, first aid, etc.) to receive information on new and improved procedures.
- Cleans assigned school facilities (classrooms, offices, restrooms, multipurpose rooms, grounds, etc.) to maintain a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment.
- Inspects school facilities to ensure the site is suitable for safe operations, is maintained in an attractive and clean condition, and identifies necessary repairs due to vandalism, equipment breakage, weather conditions, etc.
- Maintains supplies and equipment (cleaning solutions, paper products, vacuum, mops, etc.) to ensure the availability of items required for proper maintenance.
- Repairs furniture and equipment as required (e.g., faucets, toilets, replacement lights, etc.) to keep items available and in safe working condition.
- Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (facility damage, injured or ill students, alarms, etc.) to resolve safety issues and maintain a functioning educational environment.
- Secures facilities and grounds to minimize property damage, equipment loss, and potential liability.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Minimum Qualifications
Skills required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill‑based competencies include operating equipment used in industrial maintenance (electrical cleaning equipment, common tools, etc.) and adhering to safety practices.
Knowledge required to perform basic math (fractions, percents, ratios), understand written procedures, write routine documents, speak clearly, and follow multi‑step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge‑based competencies include methods of industrial cleaning, preserving floors, walls, fixtures, cleaning materials, and safety practices and procedures.
Ability required to schedule activities, collate data, consider a number of factors when using equipment, work flexibly with others, operate equipment using a variety of processes, work with a wide diversity of individuals, and utilize job‑related equipment. Problem‑solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Specific ability‑based competencies include adapting to changing work priorities, communicating with diverse groups, meeting deadlines and schedules, working as part of a team, and working with constant interruptions.
ResponsibilityResponsibilities include working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; providing information and/or advising others; and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of resources from other work units may be required. There is some opportunity to impact the organization’s services.
Working EnvironmentThe job requires significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity. General job distribution: 5% sitting, 75% walking, 20% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury or illness.
