Position: Maintenance/Grounds - 4 hours (260 Days)
Location: Chelan

Lake Chelan School District has an opening in the Maintenance/Grounds Department starting in August. The work week is during school Monday through Friday for four hours per day, five days per week. During any non-school days, including summer, this position will work 8 hours per day. The salary range is $27.61 - $32.30, depending on qualifications and experience.

Job Description

Duties will include various skilled maintenance and grounds assignments for all school district facilities, equipment, and grounds. This position is for 260 days a year. Responsible to the Director of Maintenance and Operations.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Self-starter who is able to work well without direct supervision with a desire to continue career improvement
  • Two years of K-12 building maintenance experience preferred
  • Background in carpentry, plumbing, finish work and light electrical
  • Knowledge and experience maintenance and repair of irrigation systems
  • Knowledge of heating and cooling equipment/systems operations
  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems, alarm systems, door hardware, and light electrical systems
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with computers and software relating to maintenance and inventory
  • Familiar with facility security and safety practices
  • Ability to adjust schedule due to winter weather and emergencies
  • Ability to read chemical labels and material safety data sheets (MSDS/SDS)
  • Professional working proficiency in English is required for communication with district staff and work safety
  • FBI, Washington State Patrol and Sexual Misconduct clearance
  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License
  • Current first aid/CPR card, or willingness to obtain
Essential Functions
  • Maintain school buildings and grounds in top condition to ensure full and productive use of district facilities, supporting the value of educational and work environments
  • Ensure that all activities conform to district guidelines
  • Communicate effectively with maintenance team and district staff
  • React to change productively; and handle other tasks as assigned
  • Appropriately, operate all equipment and machinery as necessary. Operate and transport heavy equipment, including tractors with loaders, dump trucks, aerators, small and large area mowers, pick-up trucks, trailers, and aerial platform lifts
  • Install, repair and maintain irrigation systems including pumps, water lines, sprinkler heads, automatic valves and controllers
  • Perform turf installation and maintenance including tilling, seeding, sodding, fertilizing, mowing, edging and weed management. Responsible for control of weeds and other vegetation in all non-improved areas of district properties including borders and non-turf areas.
  • Prepare all school athletic fields including applying game markings and dragging fields
  • Clean and maintain sidewalks, parking lots and roadways as needed through all seasons and weather
  • Maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all maintenance and repair projects
  • Perform preventive maintenance, repair, and installation in connection with:
    • electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems
    • lighting
    • exterior and interior of buildings
    • school grounds
  • Move equipment and materials within and between school buildings
  • Act as a substitute custodian when necessary
  • Observe district policies at all times
  • Adhere to all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Blood borne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan
  • Maintain safe environments for both public use and work areas
  • Respond to emergency calls to troubleshoot and make facility and grounds repairs
  • Occasionally perform work beyond a standard 40-hour work week when work-load requires in order to prevent disruption of the schools
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance and Operations or Administrative Staff
