Custodian II
Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Custodial Director or assigned Lead Custodian, the position will perform the day‑to‑day custodial duties and operations of the building. The role involves following district policies, assuring safe and sanitary conditions, and reporting responsibilities to the Director of Custodial Services.
Essential Functions- Provide general custodial duties, including cleaning school facilities and grounds, arranging furnishings and equipment, and securing buildings.
- Answer all district calls and respond promptly, acting as a point of contact when required.
- Communicate needs and cooperate with co‑workers, other departments, and different shifts.
- Follow the general direction of the Lead Custodian, seeking efficiencies in workflow while maintaining a balanced workload and ensuring clean, safe and sanitary conditions.
- Operate equipment such as tractors, extractors, floor scrubbers and other assigned equipment; may also perform height‑related tasks on ladders.
- Monitor equipment maintenance and complete emergency work orders.
- Monitor supply needs and report them to Custodial Leads.
- Identify work order needs and report them to the Custodial Lead.
- Ensure all chemicals are used safely in accordance with GHS Chemical Safety Sheets and district standard operating procedures.
- Respond to security and fire alarms as needed.
- Complete projects or travel between buildings as assigned.
- Observe and enforce safety rules, regulations, and training; report any concerns or violations to the Department Director.
- Attend meetings, which may occur outside the regular work shift, as required by the Director.
- Perform other tasks at the direction of the Director.
Education / Training / Experience
- High school diploma and/or GED equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license if the position requires travel between buildings.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Identify and respond to problems, remaining calm under stress.
- Follow verbal or written directions.
- Possess interpersonal skills and work professionally with persons at all levels, displaying a cooperative and willing attitude.
- Demonstrated written, oral communication and basic organizational skills.
- Operate a range of equipment, including man lifts, tractors, extractors and floor scrubbers.
- Understand chemical safety requirements and proper use of application equipment.
- Know and apply safety procedures and labor safety standards.
- Work with fire alarm and security systems.
- Lift, push, and pull weights exceeding 50 pounds.
- Climb ladders and operate lifts at elevated heights.
- Respond to emergency calls.
- Take and execute directions with minimum supervision.
- Perform basic clerical, computer and math tasks.
The position requires continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and heavy lifting of more than 50 pounds. Work may involve restricted spaces and difficult lighting or access conditions. Noise levels may be high when operating power equipment. Employees must use appropriate safety equipment to prevent injury.
