Jefferson County Public Works is seeking applicants for a Road Maintenance Technician I position primarily working out of the Port Hadlock and/or Quilcene county road shops. Duties include performing traffic control, using various non-CDL trucks and equipment to repair pavement surfaces, cleaning ditches and culverts, trimming trees, cutting brush and grass, etc. This position requires physical labor outdoors in varying weather conditions & after-hours callouts for emergency or storm-related events.

Road Maintenance Technician IEducation/Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED), and demonstrated experience in temporary traffic control, road maintenance, construction work; or, equivalent combination of education and experience.
Compensation:RMT I, Teamsters Grade A5-A position, starting pay typically $23.69 per hour, range: $23.69 to $29.20 per hour. Full medical benefits, including dental and vision. Retirement provided through Washington State DRS. Plus 11 paid holidays, PTO, and bereavement leave. May include evening and weekend hours for call out response.
- Duties include:
Performing work zone traffic control per MUTCD requirements - Mowing county rights-of-way
- Patching roadswith asphalt and gravel
- Cleaning culverts
- Removing trees
- Picking up litter
- Snow and ice control in non-CDL pickups
- Other similar duties are required to maintain county roads
Applicants should also have the ability to work well in a team environment; have great communication and customer-service skills; and be eager to work each day. For the right applicant, the RMT-1 position can be the beginning of a career path into progressively higher grades with additional responsibilities.
