Maintenance Technician

Description

The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing a wide range of general maintenance, repair, and facility support tasks to keep the building, equipment, and grounds in good working order. This role performs basic troubleshooting, routine repairs, parking lot and grounds upkeep, and coordination with contracted lawn care and snow-removal services.

Key Responsibilities

General Building Maintenance

• Perform basic repairs including painting, patching, caulking, door adjustments, minor carpentry, and fixture replacement.
• Install or replace shelves, signage, hardware, and small building components.
• Conduct routine inspections of building areas to identify needed repairs or safety concerns.
• Assist with minor plumbing fixes such as clearing drains, replacing faucet components, or stopping leaks (as trained).

Operational Equipment Support

• Perform entry-level maintenance tasks such as cleaning, lubricating, and simple adjustments.
• Replace basic wear items (belts, filters, guards, bulbs, covers).
• Notify supervisor or maintenance team of issues requiring higher-level technical work.

Grounds, Lawn & Parking Lot Maintenance

• Work with contracted lawn care providers to ensure grass, landscaping, and exterior areas are properly maintained; monitor service quality and notify contractors of issues or needed adjustments.
• Coordinate with contracted snow removal services, ensuring lots, walkways, and entrances are cleared safely and timely; follow up on missed areas or unsafe conditions.
• Maintain exterior areas through debris removal, trash pickup, sweeping, and general upkeep to keep lots and walkways clean and safe.
• Perform minor parking lot tasks such as small patching, crack filling, and reporting larger repair needs to management.
• Maintain landscape beds by pulling weeds, minor trimming, seasonal cleanup, and other light-duty maintenance not performed by contractors.
• Ensure exterior lighting, signage, and building entrances are operational, clean, and safe.

Facility Upkeep

• Maintain organization in maintenance areas, storage rooms, and exterior facility spaces.
• Assist with moving furniture, equipment, or materials as needed.
• Perform basic preventive maintenance following established checklists.

Safety & Compliance

• Follow all company safety procedures, including lockout/tagout when applicable.
• Report hazards, equipment concerns, and unsafe conditions immediately.
• Maintain safe, clean, and unobstructed work areas.

Contractor Support

• Assist in coordinating and overseeing contractors for lawn care, snow removal, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and specialized repairs.
• Ensure contracted work meets safety, cleanliness, and operational expectations.
• Provide feedback to management on contractor performance and needed improvements.

Requirements

Skills & Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1–3 years of general handyman, facility maintenance, or related experience preferred.
• Basic tool and equipment knowledge.
• Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. and work indoors/outdoors in varying conditions.
• Reliable, self-directed, and detail-oriented.
