Part-Time Building Maintenance Worker – William Paterson University

Schedule:

Monday – Thursday, 8pm – 12am;
Sunday, 3pm – 7pm. This IPFTE Union part‑time position averages about 20 hours per week.

• Regular cleaning and sanitizing of assigned buildings, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and disinfecting surfaces such as desks, windows, and common areas.
• Waste management: empty all trash cans and recycling bins, ensure compliance with recycling guidelines, and replace trash bags as needed.
• Restroom maintenance: clean and sanitize restrooms, restock supplies such as toilet paper, hand soap, and paper towels.
• Floor and carpet care: maintain appearance of floors and carpets through sweeping, mopping, buffing, and vacuuming as required.
• Surface disinfection of high‑touch areas such as doorknobs, handrails, light switches, and elevator buttons.
• Assistance with the setup and breakdown of tables, chairs, and other equipment for events and meetings.
• Reporting and documentation: promptly report maintenance or repair needs to the supervisor and keep accurate records of cleaning activities and supplies used.
• Adherence to safety protocols: use cleaning chemicals and equipment safely, report hazards or incidents immediately.
• Team collaboration: work effectively with other custodial staff and communicate schedules, tasks, and any concerns.
• Customer service: provide friendly assistance to students, staff, and visitors, responding to requests in a professional manner.

• Valid New Jersey driver’s license.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous custodial or cleaning experience preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
• Excellent time‑management skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
• Physical stamina to lift and move furniture, walk, stand, and bend for extended periods.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Rate of pay: $20.29 per hour.
