The Rink Operator is responsible for ice maintenance and assisting with facility operations, including general maintenance and customer service.
What You Will Do- Drive and operate the Zamboni according to established safety procedures.
- Evaluate ice conditions, equipment, and facility before, during, and after each shift; complete daily checklists and report hazards or concerns to management.
- Resurface ice and perform edging or other ice maintenance as scheduled to maintain proper ice conditions.
- Perform customer service duties such as pro shop sales, ticket window sales, skate sharpening, distributing rental skates, and assisting with set‑up/tear‑down for internal and external groups and events.
- Assist with general maintenance and cleaning of the facility and rink property, including emptying and relining trash receptacles and sweeping/vacuuming floors in locker rooms, benches, and bleacher areas.
- Assist with general maintenance of skating center grounds and property, including snow removal from walkways, stairs, doorways, Zamboni bay, and operation of cleaning and snow removal equipment and machinery.
- Assist with game management for Babson College Varsity, Club, youth, adult hockey, and other events.
- Assist with maintenance of the Zamboni and other rink equipment.
- Assist and support rink management; assume additional responsibilities as required.
- High School Diploma (some college classes preferred).
- Previous ice resurfacing experience preferred but not required.
- Experience operating an ice edger.
- Ability to perform vehicle maintenance.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to envision and propose new methods to support ET&A; take thoughtful risks and accept new initiatives to achieve results.
- Ability to anticipate change, embrace new skills, and remain flexible in changing conditions.
- All faculty and staff authorized to work on campus must be fully vaccinated against COVID‑19, including appropriate boosters; proof of vaccination is required upon hire or within 21 days of becoming eligible for a booster.
- Ability to travel on and off campus.
- Work early mornings, late evenings, and weekends.
- Heavy lifting required (75 lbs and over).
- Knowledge of NCAA Hockey protocols and procedures related to college hockey preferred.
- Prior working experience at a college or university rink preferred.
Starting rate: $20 per hour. This is a non‑exempt position. Paid sick leave is provided where required by law; eligibility, accrual, and usage follow applicable state and local regulations.
