Opportunity
Lead small groups of custodial workers or work alone to maintain the aesthetic appeal and health of the Babson College interior and exterior buildings, ensuring cleanliness for the campus community. This role requires frequent communication with custodial supervisor/foreman and the campus community. The Lead coordinates daily work of subordinate staff, supports events, set‑ups, project work, and recycling.
Key Responsibilities- Execute daily custodial tasks and direct subordinates to complete routine assignments.
- Complete work orders generated from the service response center within assigned time frames and follow up with supervisor on completion status.
- Fill accurate work records to reflect time and materials for work management logging.
- Direct custodial project work (hard surface floor care, carpet shampooing, wall washing, cycle cleaning, glass cleaning, re‑lamping, snow removal).
- Provide and assist in safety and technical training for custodial staff.
- Ensure employee safety, building security, and maintain secured equipment and keys.
- Operate motor vehicles as required and deliver supplies to custodians.
- Assist with proper pick‑up of refuse and recyclables and transport to designated locations.
- Coordinate furniture moves and event set‑ups.
- Conduct routine inspections and recommend housekeeping manager/supervisor for recognition and disciplinary actions.
- Ensure daily preventative maintenance and check vehicles used for work.
- Assume additional responsibilities as required.

Qualifications & Experience- At least 10 years of custodial experience and 5 years of project cleaning/event support experience.
- Demonstrated leadership ability.
- Must possess an IC Hoisting License.
- Hepatitis B vaccination and OSHA compliance training; maintain certifications throughout employment.
- Function well in a team/community environment, displaying courtesies and politeness.
- Frequent interaction with students, teachers, co‑workers, administrators, and government officials.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, MSDS, drawings, operating, maintenance, repair, installation, and procedure instructions or manuals.
- Thorough knowledge of custodial equipment, processes, and small group leadership skills.
- Regular exposure to wet and/or humid conditions.
- Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, precarious places, hazardous chemicals, outside weather conditions, and extreme heat.
- Possible exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
- Availability for extended hours and after‑hours callbacks for campus emergencies.
- Moderate noise levels.
- Operate a motor vehicle daily.
- Use hands to finger, handle, feel, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Lie down, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, talk, hear, and smell frequently.
- Occasionally sit.
- Regularly lift/move up to 25 lbs., often 50 lbs., and occasionally 100 lbs.
- Regularly climb/balance up to 10 ft., occasionally up to 20 ft.
- Use close vision, color vision, depth perception, and adjust focus regularly.
- Occasionally work on elevated work platforms and specialty ladders.
This is an exempt position with an hourly rate of $37.48. The position includes paid sick leave as required by law, with eligibility, accrual, and usage following applicable state and local regulations.
