Position: Custodian (Overnight)

Overview

The Custodian is responsible for performing all routine cleaning, servicing, and restocking of supplies in the assigned building. In addition, the custodian will carry out any other cleaning duties assigned by the supervisor.

What You Will Do
  • Perform all routine cleaning, servicing, and restocking of supplies in the assigned building.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and clean restrooms; wash windows and walls; and perform other duties as assigned, following prescribed procedures.
  • Clean offices, residence halls, and other campus buildings.
  • Remove trash to designated areas, sanitize, and re‑line waste containers as needed.
  • Perform detail work such as polishing brass, stainless steel, drinking fountains, dusting ledges, corners, baseboards, and all furniture without disturbing customers’ personal belongings.
  • Follow proper recycling procedures; report damages noticed in assigned areas or other items that may not be working properly; replace all burned‑out light bulbs.
  • Support special events on campus; shovel snow and sand the entrance of buildings, and assist with snow removal on campus during winter months.
  • Follow key sign‑in and sign‑out procedures and implement technical and safety methods as instructed by the supervisor.
  • Use all chemicals in accordance with the chemicals material safety data sheets to prevent property damage and ensure safety.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as required.
Education and Skills You Will Need
  • At least 6 months of previous cleaning experience desired.
  • Hepatitis B vaccination and training in compliance with OSHA regulations; maintain both throughout employment.
  • Ability to function well in a team/community environment, displaying common courtesies and politeness.
  • Frequent interaction with students, teachers, co‑workers, administrators, and government officials.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and procedures, materials and equipment, and ability to operate mechanical cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relations with supervisors, fellow workers, students, and faculty members.
  • Flexibility to work alone, in a team, and in different shifts if needed.
How and Where You Will Work

Ability to work weekends, overtime, and during special events as needed.

Must have had a valid unrestricted U.S. Driver’s License for one year and maintain an insurable or satisfactory driving record throughout employment. Must successfully complete and pass the College’s vehicle training program within the first 60 days of employment; an annual or more frequent review of the employee’s driving record will be conducted based on the College insurer’s criteria. Safety training as required by management will also be provided.

Environment

Regular exposure to wet and/or humid conditions; occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, precarious places, hazardous chemicals, outside weather conditions, extreme heat, fumes, or airborne particles; moderate noise level.

Physical Demands
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, talk or hear, and smell.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Regularly climb and/or balance up to 10 feet; occasionally climb and/or balance up to 20 feet.
  • Regular use of close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly use hands to finger, handle, feel, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

This position is Tuesday – Saturday from 10:00PM to 6:30AM.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a non‑exempt position with an hourly probationary rate of $24.24.

Includes paid sick leave where required by law. Eligibility, accrual, and usage will follow applicable state and local regulations.
