Assistant Director of Facilities & Engineering

Reports To: Director of Facilities & Engineering

Direct Reports: None initially; may supervise maintenance staff in the Director's absence

Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Facilities & Engineering is a hands-on leadership position responsible for assisting with the maintenance, operation, repair, and continuous improvement of the Club's buildings, infrastructure, mechanical systems, and physical assets.

Working closely with the Director, this position will remain actively involved in daily maintenance and repairs while progressively assuming responsibility for department leadership, preventative maintenance, budgeting, vendor management, capital projects, and compliance issues
.

This position is designed as the primary succession role for the department, with the expectation that the successful candidate will be prepared to assume the Director position within approximately three to five years
.

Maintenance & Facilities Operations

Perform and assist with maintenance, troubleshooting, installation, and repairs throughout the Club, including:

  • HVAC, boilers, water heaters, plumbing, and electrical systems within licensing limitations
  • Building automation and pool mechanical systems
  • Carpentry, drywall, painting, doors, locks, hardware, lighting, and general building repairs
  • Interior finishes and other building systems

Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency repairs throughout the property.

Assist with the operation and maintenance of all Club facilities, including the clubhouse, dining and banquet spaces, golf and racquets facilities, fitness and aquatics facilities, administrative offices, maintenance buildings, parking areas, and outdoor spaces.

Ensure facilities consistently meet the standards expected of a premier private club and provide a safe, attractive, and comfortable environment for members, guests, and employees.

Preventative Maintenance

Assist in developing and executing a comprehensive preventative maintenance program by:

  • Performing scheduled maintenance and facility inspections
  • Maintaining accurate equipment and maintenance records
  • Monitoring equipment performance and identifying potential failures
  • Recommending repairs, upgrades, and equipment replacement
  • Improving maintenance schedules, procedures, and documentation
Safety & Compliance

Assist in maintaining compliance with applicable regulatory and safety requirements, including:

  • OSHA standards
  • Massachusetts Building and Fire Codes
  • ADA requirements
  • Pool and aquatics regulations
  • Fire alarm, boiler, and elevator inspections

Maintain organized inspection and compliance records and assist with corrective actions and reporting.

Leadership & Department Development

As experience and knowledge increase, assume progressively greater responsibility for:

  • Daily department operations and work prioritization
  • Maintenance staff supervision and development
  • Vendor and contractor coordination
  • Capital projects and facility improvements
  • Budget preparation, expense tracking, and financial management
  • Equipment replacement and long-term capital planning
  • Department policies, procedures, and documentation
  • Strategic and operational planning
  • Communication with Club leadership and other departments

Serve as a key resource and backup to the Director and provide departmental leadership during the Director’s absence.

Qualifications
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible commercial building maintenance, engineering, or facilities experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of multiple building trades, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general maintenance.
  • Prior experience as a lead technician, maintenance supervisor, assistant manager, or similar leadership role preferred.
  • Experience in a private club, luxury hospitality, healthcare, higher education, commercial facility, or similarly complex property highly desirable.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Construction Management, Mechanical Systems, Building Operations, or related field preferred. Equivalent technical education and experience will be considered.
  • Strong desire and demonstrated potential to advance into a senior facilities leadership position.
Physical & Working Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs and work in elevated areas.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to respond to facility emergencies outside normal business hours when required.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding maintenance activities as part of the regular workday.

This individual will bring a long-term commitment to the Club and a clear desire to develop into the Director of Facilities & Engineering role within three to five years
