Job Summary

The Maintenance Technician I’s primary job function is to provide routine grounds maintenance and perform all entry‑level support and assistance with all aspects of building maintenance to ensure the safety and proper function of CVCH facilities. This position also provides routine grounds maintenance and back‑up to janitorial support.

Job Specific Competencies
  • Performs routine landscaping and grounds maintenance, which may include mowing, raking, weeding, edging, fertilizing, litter collection, removal of debris, and irrigation repairs.
  • Maintains a high level of customer service at all times while working in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Assembles furniture and equipment as assigned.
  • Performs tasks, operates equipment, and uses materials safely, adhering to safety policies, operator manuals, SDS, OSHA, and other instructions.
  • Provides cleanup for spills, including biological and chemical spills.
  • Provides entry‑level assistance to Maintenance Technician II under direct supervision in the following areas:
    • Various remodeling and construction projects.
    • Carpentry repairs.
    • Drywall repairs and painting.
    • Electrical maintenance and repairs.
    • HVAC maintenance.
    • Tool and equipment maintenance.
    • Monthly safety checks.
    • Fleet maintenance.
  • Provides janitorial support, acting as back‑up janitor as needed.
  • Provides pickup, distribution, and/or relocation of freight, furniture, equipment, etc.
  • Provides snow and ice removal by shoveling, plowing, and chipping; applies sand and ice melt.
  • Records maintenance and repair work performed in the departmental daily log sheet.
  • Responds to building service calls, troubleshoots, and resolves issues with the Maintenance team.
  • Responds to Environment of Care codes as trained and instructed (e.g., Manpower, Code Red, fire alarms).
General Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs other duties and tasks as assigned by supervisor.
  • Prepared to start shift at scheduled time, meet attendance standards, and work required hours.
  • Follows all safety policies and housekeeping practices; ensures areas, equipment, and supplies are neat, clean, and safe.

Job Specifications
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification/Licensure: Current Washington State Driver’s License.
  • Experience: One year of general maintenance repair ability or experience in construction trades or building janitorial/maintenance preferred.

    Clear verbal communication, ability to handle/grip objects, follow instructions, read operating instructions and MSDS, basic computer skills, use of MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel), and operation of radios, electrical equipment, hand and power tools, hammers, drills, and precision instruments.

    Good communication and customer service, independent and team work, task prioritization, and effective collaboration.
  • Physical Requirements: Good physical condition, lift up to 50 lbs and leverage up to 70 lbs, proper lifting techniques, frequent pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, twisting, restraining, ladder use, rooftop work, flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
