Chipton‑Ross is seeking Pipe Welders for a contract opportunity in Marinette, WI.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE)- Must have 5 years minimum of construction or mechanical experience
- Ability to keep your hand and arm steady while holding position
- Ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer)
- Ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or vehicle to exact positions
- Ability to imagine how something will look after it is moved or its parts are rearranged
- Ability to quickly move hand and arm or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects
All pipe tests are conducted on 6" SCH 40 pipe, primarily in the 6G position. Each test has a 2‑hour time limit and includes four bend specimens—two root bends and two face bends. Discs are usually on carbon pipe but may include stainless or copper‑nickel as needed.
- GTAW:
All‑out open root - SMAW with backing ring
- FCAW with backing ring
- GMAW short circuit open root with FCAW fill and cover
- Reinforcement/cover passes must be stacked from bottom to top
- Reinforcement cannot be below flush and shall not exceed 1/8" in height
- Undercut shall not exceed 1/32"
- Weld shall be free of porosity, cracks, and incomplete fusion
- Welds must be in the as‑welded condition
- Weld root must be at least flush
- Discontinuities not exceeding 1/32" are acceptable
- Discontinuities exceeding 1/8" cause rejection
- Total discontinuities cannot exceed 3/8"
Follows directions under intermittent supervision. Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
- Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits
- Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, including shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment
- Select and install torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux according to welding chart specifications or types and thicknesses of metals
- Lay out, position, align, and secure parts prior to assembly using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers
- Examine work pieces for defects and measure them with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications
- Operate manual or semi‑automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using flux‑cored arc
- Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors
- Use fire suppression methods in industrial emergencies
- Gouge metals using the air‑arc gouging process
- Troubleshoot problems with all equipment as they arise
May be assigned miscellaneous tasks outside craft as required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE)- 3+ years of experience preferred
- Prior shipyard experience a plus
- Fabrication experience in a military environment a plus
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment
- Prior experience at FBS
Accredited high school diploma or GED.
WORK HOURSFull‑time.
ADDITIONAL- $165 daily per diem
- To qualify you must hold a legal residence at least 80 miles away from the work site
