Utility Custodian
The Utility Custodian performs various assigned tasks in a building maintenance, grounds, and custodial capacity. The Utility Custodian must be able to perform general maintenance tasks in multiple disciplines.
Tasks include, but are not limited to:
- Knowledge and use of various hand tools and small power tools related to general maintenance tasks, including hammers, screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, drills, saws, and other related equipment.
- Knowledge and use of grounds maintenance equipment, including lawn mowers, string trimmers, hedge trimmers, snow blowers, snow plows, and tractors.
- Knowledge and use of ladders, scaffolding, power lifts, and other work platforms.
- Perform various general maintenance tasks, including carpentry, electrical, HVAC, painting, plumbing, and equipment maintenance.
- Perform various grounds maintenance tasks, including mowing grass, string trimming, hedge trimming, raking, watering, trash removal, and snow removal.
- Perform shipping and receiving tasks, including loading and unloading materials, distributing, moving, and removing furniture and supplies.
- Perform general custodial tasks, including sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, mopping, disinfecting, auto-scrubbing, trash removal, and carpet care.
- Perform major custodial tasks, including stripping, waxing, sealing, and deep cleaning.
- Perform setup and breakdown of equipment and materials used for sports, performing arts, and other school functions.
- When necessary, assist with training and communication with custodial staff.
- When necessary, serve as a substitute Head Custodian.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent is necessary
- Current PA driver's license
- Must have a minimum of 5 years working in the custodial, maintenance field.
- Must be able to work on ladders and platforms up to 40 feet high.
- Must have knowledge in electrical, plumbing, HVAC and custodial
- Possess effective interpersonal skills with the ability to interface diplomatically with teachers, administrators, parents, students, support staff and outside contacts
Qualified candidate will be required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, and to talk and hear;
Ability to work at heights utilizing ladders;
Sit and occasionally be required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel and crouch;
Have specific vision abilities, to include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus;
Have the ability to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds; and possess effective communication, judgmental, planning and human relations skills, and will be required to work under periods of stress due to the level of the position responsibility.
Reporting Relationships:
- Reports directly to the Head Custodian
- Works cooperatively with administrators, supervisors, staff, and others to perform job responsibilities as outlined
Terms of Employment:
- This position is a 12 month position. (260-262 days)
- This position requires someone to be on site 40 hours a week.
- Salary & Benefits are as described in the current Collective Bargaining Agreement. (Group
3) - $23.26 per hour - $32.14 per hour
