Groundskeeper

Description

Maintains the aesthetic appeal and health of the Pomfret School landscape and ensures that grounds are safe for the campus community.

• Complete assigned daily maintenance per the Lead Groundskeeper.
• Complete seasonal grounds maintenance work including snow and ice removal, planting bed maintenance, tree and shrub care, spring clean‑up and fall leaf clean‑up.
• Complete work orders within the assigned time frame.
• Write routine instructions, reports, logs, and descriptions of equipment problems and needs.
• Execute daily, preventative maintenance operations on all assigned vehicles and equipment in accordance with manufacturer recommendations.
• Wear all required safety equipment when conducting work.
• Provide assistance to other department members as needed and support major events such as Commencement and Opening of School.
• Adhere to all School policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
• Continually meet or exceed Pomfret School’s Standards of Behavior, Character, and Engagement.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Minimum of 1‑3 years landscape maintenance experience.
• Knowledge of grounds equipment maintenance.
• High School diploma, GED, or equivalent technical school certification.
• Must hold and maintain a valid unrestricted US driver’s license.
• OSHA Certification preferred.

• Regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
• Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, hazardous chemicals, outside weather conditions, and extreme heat.
• Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
• Usually exposed to moderate noise level.

• Operate a motor vehicle on a daily basis.
• Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, often lift and/or move up to 75 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
• Regularly climb and/or balance up to 10 feet, and often climb and/or balance up to 25 feet.
• Regularly use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
• Regularly stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Frequently stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, talk or hear, and taste or smell.
• Occasionally sit.
• Regular use of close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
