Position SummaryThe Accounting Manager responsible for leading the company's multi-state sales and use tax function, ensuring compliance while minimizing tax risk and maximizing available exemptions.
This role serves as the company's internal subject matter expert on indirect tax matters, partnering with Accounting, Operations, Procurement, Estimating, Manufacturing, and Project Management to provide strategic tax guidance for a hybrid manufacturing and construction business oversees the accounting department functions and utilizes a hands‑on approach and focus to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of financial statements and reporting.
They will take an active role in not only completing tasks but also to appropriately allocate tasks evenly across the team.
Competitive Pay Range$100,000 - $140,000 annually, depending on experience

- Manage the company's end-to-end sales and use tax function, including compliance, reporting, filings, reconciliations, and audit readiness.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation and filing of multi-state sales and use tax returns.
- Maintain exemption certificates, tax registrations, and tax engine configurations.
- Develop, implement, and maintain tax policies, procedures, and internal controls to support compliance and operational efficiency.
- Serve as the company's subject matter expert on sales and use tax matters.
- Conduct complex multi-state tax research utilizing tax research platforms, statutes, regulations, and case law.
- Interpret contractor, manufacturer, retailer, and fabrication tax rules and provide guidance on contracts, procurement activities, and business transactions.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory changes and recommend process improvements to ensure ongoing compliance and minimize risk.
- Determine the appropriate tax treatment for furnish‑only and furnish‑and‑install contracts.
- Apply state‑specific contractor, manufacturer, and retailer tax regulations.
- Identify and maximize manufacturing exemptions and other tax‑savings opportunities.
- Lead state and local sales and use tax audits from inception through resolution.
- Research, document, and defend tax positions using applicable statutes, regulations, rulings, and technical guidance.
- Manage audit responses, refund claims, appeals, and voluntary disclosure agreements while minimizing tax exposure and maintaining compliance.
- Oversee general ledger accounting functions and support the month‑end and year‑end close processes.
- Ensure account reconciliations are completed accurately and timely.
- Maintain accurate records of cash transactions and provide timely financial reporting.
- Support quarterly reviews, annual financial audits, and internal control audits.
- Establish and maintain accounting records and documentation to support financial transactions and compliance requirements.
