Additional certificates will be supplemented with approval
252 days per fiscal year (Monday-Friday x 8 hours per day), additional hours as needed.
Job DescriptionThe HVAC Technician is responsible for the safe operating condition of HVAC equipment in all facilities owned or operated by the Hampshire County Board of Education.
Key Responsibilities- Communicates, collaborates, and cooperates with colleagues, supervisors, and students.
- Maintains and repairs heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and associated control systems.
- Establishes and follows preventive maintenance procedures for HVAC systems throughout the district’s facilities.
- Maintains and repairs commercial cooling systems countywide (refrigeration, freezers, and ice makers).
- Recommends supplies and equipment for purchase; maintains an inventory of spare parts, tools, equipment, and supplies; compares prices and orders parts from approved HCS vendors.
- Works closely with Energy Consultant/Control Vendors to resolve control problems; contacts control vendors for step-by-step resolution.
- Is well versed in all equipment types, makes, and models.
- May also assist with general maintenance needs as appropriate.
- High school diploma or GED; 2‑year vocational degree preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial building HVAC services.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
- Ability to calculate figures, percentages, areas, volumes; apply basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization.
- Ability to interpret a variety of written, oral, diagram, or schedule instructions.
- Journeyman HVAC technician.
- Federal Universal Refrigerant Certification.
- Electrical & Plumbing experience preferred.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of district requirements and policies.
The employee regularly stands, walks, uses hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, talks or hears. The employee frequently reaches, squats, stoops, kneels, reaches above head, and lifts or moves up to 50 pounds. Requires close vision, distance vision, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work EnvironmentWork near moving mechanical machinery and equipment, toxic or caustic chemicals, occasional outside weather conditions, fumes or airborne particles, deadlines with severe time constraints, usual and occasional loud noise levels.
Reports ToHampshire County Schools Superintendent; EPIC Administrator.
