Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Core Government Services company is looking for a Critical Facility Plant Operator to join our 24/7/365 operational watch team at the VA Capital Region Readiness Center (CRRC) in Martinsburg, WV.
Plant Operators are the frontline guardians of the facility, ensuring continuous onsite monitoring (minimum 2-person watch team physically present around the clock) of electrical, mechanical, environmental, fuel, and life safety systems to safeguard the VA's critical readiness mission.
Responsibilities:- Conduct continuous 24/7/365 onsite physical watch standing and computer-based monitoring of facility infrastructure, environmental parameters, and building automation systems (BMS/SCADA).
- Perform scheduled physical security, equipment, and plant rounds; inspect operating temperatures, pressures, fluid levels, electrical loads, and alarm panels.
- Serve as first-look responder to critical alarms and system anomalies; evaluate problem severity, initiate standard response procedures, and escalation to management/technical leads as necessary.
- Prepare, manage, and dispatch work orders through the CMMS, logging all service calls, maintenance events, and equipment anomalies.
- Maintain accurate electronic shift logs and deliver formal shift-turnover briefings to relieving operators.
- Support preventive maintenance activities, routine filter changes, minor repairs, and operational checks on plant equipment.
- Perform escort duties for Government personnel, vendors, OEM field service technicians, and specialty contractors accessing secure areas.
- Maintain compliance with CGS fatigue management standards (shifts limited to a maximum of 10 consecutive hours within any 24-hour window, with mandatory 10-hour rest intervals).
Education and Experience:
- Minimum three (3) years of experience supporting mission-critical facilities, data centers, industrial plants, healthcare infrastructure, commercial HVAC operations, or central utility plants.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Building Management Systems (BMS), SCADA software, and computerized alarm monitoring.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and CMMS work order software.
- High school diploma or GED; strong mechanical/electrical aptitude.
- Excellent communication skills; ability to remain calm and methodical under emergency alarm conditions.
- Ability to pass a federal background investigation (e-QIP / SF-85P) and obtain a VA PIV badge.
Education and Experience:
- Associate Degree or technical certificate in Facility Engineering, Stationary Engineering, HVAC, or Electrical Technology.
- Stationary Engineer License or Power Plant Operating Certificate.
- OSHA 10-Hour Safety Training and NFPA 70E Electrical Safety awareness.
- Prior military watch standing experience (e.g., US Navy Nuclear/Engineering watch stander or DoD facility operator).
Inside Government 24/7/365 mission-critical data center and utility plant facilities in Martinsburg, WV.
Work Schedule:24/7/365 rotating shift work (including days, nights, weekends, and holidays) inside the CRRC central plant and control operations room in Martinsburg, WV.

Contract Length:5-Year Multi-Year BPA / Base Period + Option Years
