Were is seeking an experienced Resident Engineer to lead construction engineering services for municipal infrastructure projects throughout the western suburbs of Chicago. This position offers the opportunity to work directly with municipal clients, oversee impactful public improvements, mentor younger engineers, and grow into long-term leadership within our firm.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the Resident Engineer on municipal capital improvement projects, such as roadway reconstruction, water main replacement, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, streetscape, sidewalk, and utility improvement projects.
  • Lead construction administration from preconstruction through final acceptance.
  • Manage contractor coordination, scheduling, pay estimates, RFIs, change orders, and claims.
  • Represent the Village during construction meetings.
  • Coordinate with utility companies, agencies, and municipal staff.
  • Mentor younger construction inspectors and project engineers.
  • Maintain positive relationships with municipal clients
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in municipal engineering or related infrastructure work.
  • Experience with IDOT documentation requirements and CMMS.
  • Familiarity with construction inspection practices and municipal improvement projects.
  • Illinois Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred (or ability to obtain Illinois licensure through reciprocity).
  • Experience serving as a Resident Engineer or Construction Manager on municipal infrastructure projects.
  • Experience administering IDOT, MFT, or locally funded public works projects.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
