Research Assistant/Associate, Research Scientist, Clinical Research
Position Overview
Under general supervision, the Research Assistant will conduct research related to the NIH R15 grant “Aim
32p; a multi‑faced protein in mitochondrial biogenesis” and support projects by performing standard molecular techniques (PCR, protein gel electrophoresis, native PAGE), yeast growth assays, mitochondrial DNA translation assays, and general lab maintenance. The assistant will also collect, verify, record, and compile data related to ongoing research carried out in the lab. Work will involve the model organisms Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Escherichia coli.
- Perform experiments related to research projects and accurately record results.
- Execute standard molecular biology/biochemistry techniques: PCR, protein gel electrophoresis, native PAGE, yeast growth assays, and mitochondria DNA translation assays.
- Document procedures and cell‑growth data in clear, organized notebooks.
- Collect, verify, and compile research data.
- Supervise student interns on specific experiments and provide training as needed.
- Advise the supervisor on ordering reagents and laboratory supplies.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment; advise on repairs and upgrades.
- Organize and maintain supplies and reagents.
- Prepare purchase orders when required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
- Bachelor’s degree in science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in an academic laboratory setting.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and, preferably, statistical software.
- Familiarity with biochemistry or molecular biology laboratory practices.
- Ability to operate laboratory equipment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Time‑management skills and ability to follow through on assigned projects.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Good interpersonal communication with colleagues, supervisors, and external contacts.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Graph Pad Prism preferred.
- Experience with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
Salary range: $22.26 – $26.68 per hour. Staff term:
Fixed Term. The position is not eligible for current or future visa sponsorship.
