Position Overview
Reporting to a Shift Supervisor and/or Watch Commander, the DPS Patrol Officer is a full‑time, uniformed, unarmed university employee responsible for providing a safe and secure campus environment for Loyola Marymount University’s (LMU) students, faculty, staff and guests. The Patrol Officer is tasked with patrolling campus grounds and buildings, performing security checks, and ensuring compliance with university rules.
Key Responsibilities- Spend the majority of the time in the field on uniformed patrol or assigned post to complete building security checks, foot/vehicle patrols, incident response, and report writing.
- Respond to calls for assistance, emergency situations, and incidents in progress.
- Respond to activated alarms for fire, chemical spills, medical emergencies, burglaries, and door security concerns, and immediately report these to the DPS communications officer and Watch Commander on duty.
- Generate daily activity reports and incident reports, noting equipment irregularities, property damage, or any incidents reported to the DPS University Hall office.
- Patrol premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion, equipment malfunction, and safety hazards; secure doors, gates, and windows during off‑hours.
- Provide excellent customer service, escort or access service as requested, and warn persons of LMU rule infractions.
- Work a flexible schedule, including a 4/10 shift schedule (four ten‑hour days per week), overtime, rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, close‑out events, and designated peak periods such as summer.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent; continued upgrading of knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Current California Guard Card and Driver’s License.
- CPR/First‑Aid & AED certifications and PR24 Baton certification acquired within six months from hire date.
- Valid California driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Position is Campus Security Authority (CSA) under the Jeanne Clery Act and a Mandatory Reporter by university policy.
- Must wear an approved duty uniform and utility belt; compliance with uniform and grooming standards.
- Exemplary written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated computer competency.
Constantly required to sit, use finger movements, speak clearly, hear conversation, and see near and far. Frequently required to stand and walk. Occasionally required to lift, carry, and push up to 25 lbs., stoop, kneel, reach high and low, and use depth perception. CompensationHiring Salary: $22.26 hourly. The position is non‑exempt. Salary range: $22.26 – $26.68, commensurate with education and experience. This position may not be eligible for visa sponsorship.
