Landscaping, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Position Overview
Under supervision, perform skilled tree trimming that is horticulturally sound while enhancing the aesthetic of the existing Landscape Maintenance Program.
Responsibilities- Trim and prune existing trees on LMU properties, working from the ground, from ladders, and by climbing trees with the aid of ropes, climbers, seats, belts and aerial lifts.
- Operate a chipper machine for the disposal of debris and operate a forklift.
- Divert traffic flow using street/safety delineators as needed and protect parked cars from falling debris.
- Maintain tools required to perform the job.
- Administer University safety programs as applicable to Grounds & Transportation personnel and equipment.
- Represent LMU within Facilities Management community and at professional organizations or associations, serve on committees as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications- Typically a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of technical or trade school or on-the-job training in grounds equipment, maintenance and repair is preferred.
- Minimum 3 years experience in tree trimming that involved tree climbing.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the operation of a variety of tree maintenance equipment.
- Basic tools, equipment, and techniques involved in tree maintenance work.
- Knowledge of growth characteristics of ornamental trees commonly found in landscape settings.
- Demonstrated skill and safety in operating tree trimming equipment and performing minor repairs.
- Care for and maintain tools.
- Identification of trees.
- Ability to work from aerial equipment or by climbing at considerable heights and “sitting/working” for long periods of time in uncomfortable/irregular positions.
- Physical endurance, agility, and strength necessary to perform heavy manual labor at great heights as well as on the ground.
- Exemplary written and oral communication skills.
- Valid California driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
The role requires constant sitting, finger movement, speaking clearly, and hearing conversations; frequently standing and walking; occasionally lifting, carrying, and pushing up to 25 lbs., stooping, kneeling, and reaching high and low. CompensationStaff Regular Salary range: $23.51 - $29.38 per hour, commensurate with education and experience.
