Summer Custodian - Seasonal

Job Summary:

The summer custodian will seasonally support custodial operations throughout the Westerly Public School District during the summer months of July and August. This position assists with summer cleaning, facility maintenance, grounds upkeep, and special projects in preparation for the upcoming school year, as well as support for summer programs and events. The custodian will help ensure all school facilities and grounds are safe, clean, and well-maintained, providing an attractive and functional environment for students, staff, and community members.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain district buildings in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition, including classrooms, corridors, stairwells, and restrooms.
• Collect and dispose of trash and recyclables.
• Set up and break down furniture and equipment for school activities and events.
• Perform minor preventive maintenance inside buildings as directed.
• Assist with grounds maintenance, including snow and ice removal.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Experience:
• 1 year in a custodial capacity in the private or public sector or maintenance worker in a school system preferred but not required.
• Knowledge of the materials, methods, implements and devices used in cleaning operations and the care of custodial equipment preferred.
• Education:
• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
• Physical Requirements:
• Lifting and carrying, up to seventy five (75) pounds to perform moderately heavy, manual labor.
• Bending, stooping, reaching above shoulder level and climbing and descending stairs and ladders.
