Western Springs School District 101 seeks a dynamic, educational leader for Assistant Principal/Dean of Students of McClure Junior High School for the 2026 - 2027 school year.
Purpose:The Junior High Assistant Principal or Dean of Students assists the building principal in organizing and fostering a positive, safe environment that is conducive to best meeting the needs of all students, staff, and parents. This includes such responsibilities as: leading, directing, counseling, and supervising a variety of personnel and programs; creating effective parent, teacher, and student communications; supporting, encouraging, mentoring, and evaluating staff;
fostering teamwork between teachers and among staff and parents; and managing budget items. The Assistant Principal/Dean of Students acts in the capacity of Principal during the principal's absence from the school.
- Master's degree from an accredited college/university either completed or in progress
- Current Illinois State Teaching License on file, with Principal Endorsement either completed or in progress
- Successful completion of Illinois Performance Evaluation – Teacher Evaluation Training (IPA AA #2001) (prior to September 2026)
- Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience
- Preferred: 3 years of related administrative experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in supervision and administration preferred.

Performance Responsibilities:Instructional Leadership:
- Support the philosophy and vision of Western Springs School District 101.
- Facilitate the intellectual and professional development of teachers for the ultimate benefit of improved learning gains for students.
- Serve on the following strategic leadership structures:
- Administrative Council
- District Leadership Team
- Building Leadership Team
- Designated Curriculum Committee(s)
- Demonstrate knowledge of research-based instructional strategies that engage all students (i.e. problem-based learning approaches, workshop models, inquiry-based models, Socratic seminar, Responsive Classroom, daily differentiated practice, etc.).
- Facilitate research-based instructional practices that promote student growth.
- Assume leadership in promoting, modeling and cultivating effective instructional practices currently understood to be successful implementation of the following major drivers: formative assessment practices, high impact instructional pedagogies, social emotional wellness and differentiation (aka: The D101 Continuous Improvement Wheel).
- Assist in implementing instructional strategies, including supporting the needs of diverse learners, delivery methods, assessment, and staff development techniques for improvement of instruction.
- Attend conferences, workshops, and professional meetings to keep informed of current practices and trends in education.
- Promote a positive, caring learning environment for students and staff: focus on learning, growth, and mindset in order to foster voice, choice, and empowerment.
- Establish rapport and relationships with students and staff, to promote positive school climate and staff morale.
- Facilitate staff relationships: participate in grade-level team meetings, facilitate both positive and difficult conversations with and between staff members.
- Communicate effectively with members of the school district and community; listen and respond to parent concerns with sensitivity.
- Conduct parent and student meetings and attend after school activities.
- Assist the principal in the supervision and evaluation of classroom instruction.
- Assist in the orientation of new staff members to the teaching environment at the school, especially as it relates to the area of students, personnel policy and procedures, and general building practices.
- Assist in: hiring/orientation; evaluating; working through concerns and classroom management; planning and directing meetings, staff development, trainings, and in‑services; listening, feedback, and encouragement for all staff.
