Environmental Service Spec I​/Hospital Cleaner

Position Overview

Western Massachusetts Hospital, part of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, seeks an experienced Environmental Service Specialist I for the Environmental Services (EVS) Department at the Westfield hospital campus. The position is a full‑time 1st shift (6:30 am – 3:00 pm) with days off Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

• Clean floors by sweeping, vacuuming, and washing using appropriate supplies and equipment.
• Clean interior surfaces such as walls, ceilings, windows, and furniture by dusting, polishing, and washing.
• Maintain toilets, lavatories, washrooms, and mop closets, disposing of waste properly.
• Empty waste receptacles and handle general, infectious, and hazardous waste.
• Clean furniture (beds, dressers, chairs, tables, over‑bed tables) and other items as required.
• Strip, scrub, seal, and finish floors as needed.
• Remake beds after washing using appropriate linen supplies.
• Remove and re‑hang draperies and curtains to maintain appearance.
• Operate battery‑powered equipment (floor machines, Kai Vac, scrubbers, burnishers) following manufacturer and safety procedures.
• Set up and break down conference rooms for meetings and functions.
• Perform terminal cleaning in patient rooms upon discharge and for long‑term care patients per policy.
• Inspect assigned areas to ensure work has been performed according to established procedures.

• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods and lift/carry heavy objects, with or without accommodation.

• Prior cleaning, custodial, or housekeeping experience.
