SUMMARYAssistant Director of Engineering provides management and leadership to engineering staff members and support in day to day operations and work flow. This position directly manages Resort Maintenance, Field Maintenance, Painting/Installation crew, and supports other Engineering functions when necessary. The Assistant Director of Engineering ensures the maintenance technicians and departmental supervisors provide quick responses, follow through, and excellent customer service to guests, residents, members, and departmental areas within the resort.
This position reports to and takes directions from the Director of Engineering.
- Responsible for planning and managing day to day work load of direct reports, with a focus on guest service, guest-facing maintenance, and projects
- Maintain department ledger, track expenses, coordinate billing, setup and services
- Install, operate, or maintain equipment, systems, or processes to meet requirements needed to service our guests and employees
- Assist Director in working with MIOSHA, DEQ and Health Department ensuring that the Resort practices follow all Federal, State and Local regulations
- Assist Director in providing proper equipment operation, troubleshooting, diagnosis and implementing necessary repairs
- Assist Director in establishing quality standards, preventative maintenance program, work order system, inventory control, R&M work, and room calls
- Oversee preventative maintenance program ensuring that all equipment and facilities are attended to according to standards
- Assist in negotiations and bids for contracts with vendors or contractors and initiate purchase orders
- Maintain all necessary documentation/inventories required for proper maintenance of building and equipment operation
- Oversee safety of facility operations and the physical response to natural or unnatural emergencies
- Interprets company policies for workers and enforces safety regulations
- Be responsible for the condition of all assigned tools and equipment
- Respond to mobile radio using professional etiquette. Be responsible for the condition of personally assigned mobile radio
- Maintain open line of communication with supervisor and provide department management when required including attending and directing weekly meetings with engineering staff
- Maintain superior working relations with internal and external customers while providing a memorable experience
- Ensure personal accountability for all work duties, assignments, and performance expectations
- Lead by example by displaying a readiness to respond positively to instruction and procedures

- Must possess an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a technical field or have 4 years of direct experience in institutional maintenance (hospitality preferred
- Must have 5 years of supervisory experience
- Knowledge in the following areas is highly preferred: HVAC, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Controls, etc.
- Must have knowledge of all phases of facility management to include: HVAC, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, preventative maintenance, kitchen equipment, boilers, roofing, and all other applicable commercial building systems
- Valid Michigan driver’s license and insurable through GTRS insurance policy
- Experience working with computer work order systems and Microsoft operating systems
